Heart-to-Heart Connection

To inspire and be inspired!

A Big Heart

From Harunur Rashid’s smile and calm demeanor, it’s hard to imagine the hardships the 17-year-old Bangladeshi endured since he arrived in New York City four years ago.

Wishing a better life for her son, Harunur’s mother paid a man to take him to America.

Upon arrival, the teenager was forced to serve a Bangladeshi family.  Three years later, he saw an opportunity and escaped.

That day, Harunur’s life crossed path with Mohammed Chowdhery, a Bangladeshi restaurant owner in the Bronx.  Mohammed adopted Harunur.  The young man is currently applying for permanent residency.

Harunur attends New York City’s E.L.L.I.S PREPARATORY ACADEMY.  “You have to study hard,” he says.  “When I finish education, then we get a good job and life success.”

Principal, Norma Vega shares on camera, “Harunur wasn’t looking to get back at people.  He just wants to live.”

Wow!
