Heart-to-Heart Connection

To inspire and be inspired!

Ethical CEO

In today’s tough economic times, most people may not associate CEOs with ethics. But Costco’s CEO, Jim Sinegal, is not one of them; he’s one of us — on Main Street, not Wall Street.

According to FASTCOMPANY.com, Mr. Sinegal answers his own phone, sends his own faxes, and talk to customers and employees (always in touch with the people). The company pays workers an average of $17.00 an hour and covers 90 percent of health-insurance costs for both full-time and part-timers (Guess where I’m going next? I’d be honored to clean toilets!).

We’re trying to build a company that’s going to be here 50 and 60 years from now. We owe that to the communities where we do business. We owe that to our employees; that they can count on us for security. We have 140,000 employees and their families; that’s significant number of people who count on us, not to mention our suppliers and customers.”

We owe it to our customers to continue to offer (quality at) good prices. Our presence in the community makes pricing better throughout that community because when you have a tough competitor in the marketplace, prices come down.”

Chrysler, GM, Ford — are you listening?  You sure can learn something from Costco’s philosophy and business model.

Mr. Sinegal, thanks for caring. Thanks for your commitment. THANK YOU for giving back to our community.

You rock! You roll! You LEAD OUT LOUD!
