Brain Rules (II) — Care

People don’t care how much you know until they know you care. (John Maxwell)

Isn’t that the truth.  We humans are emotional creatures first; logic second.

And what does this have to do with surviving and thriving?

Most animals are fending for themselves in a matter of months.  Humans?  Not for years — usually not for a couple of decades.  We develop and use our intelligence at the mercy of parents, teachers, and other caregivers. (John Medina)

Relationship is everything.

Our brains learn in safe environments.  Hostility — threats and intimidation — perpetuate combative behavior and mental shutdown.

Humans couldn’t become bigger, faster, and tougher — so we became smarter — forming bonds with other humans (John Medina); after all, two good minds are better than one, and three, definitely better than two.

Which would you prefer — a hostile, intimidating environment, or a caring, respectful one?  Which would our brains prefer?  How about your children, students, and workers?

People don’t care how much you know until they know you care. (John Maxwell)

Care.  We’ll bring out the best in others. 🙂

(I’ll do my best to follow my own advice — always strength in numbers.  Hope you’ll join me.)
