READ THE BIBLE IN 365 DAYS: SHORT AND CONCISE (8/12)

TODAY’S SCRIPTURES:

Nehemiah 3:15-5:13  The Jews work zealously to restore the walls of Jerusalem.  Furious enemies mock the Jews but God provides protection.  Nehemiah defends the poor, oppressed, over-taxed Jews from the wealthy Jews.  Said Nehemiah, “You are hurting your own relatives by charging interest when they borrow money!” He called a public meeting.  Wealthy Jews repent and return the monies to their less fortunate brethren.

1 Corinthians 7:25-40  Apostle Paul encourages celibacy; however, promotes marriage if that will help keep passions under control. Paul also recommends marriage between believers but upholds celibacy above all.

Psalm 32:1-11  I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.  And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.  Many sorrows come to the wicked but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.  So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him!  Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!

Proverbs 21: 5-7   Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.  Wealth created by a lying tongue is a vanishing mist and a deadly trap.  The violence of the wicked sweeps them away, because they refuse to do what is just.
