READ THE BIBLE IN 365 DAYS: SHORT AND CONCISE (8/16)

TODAY’S SCRIPTURES:

Nehemiah 11:1-12:26  The rebuilding of the wall was not simply about brick and mortar but about reestablishing the Lord’s sovereignty. The people (Jews) commended all volunteers; those who helped restore the walls of Jerusalem and resettled there.  The Jewish leaders lived in Jerusalem, the holy city. A tenth of the people from the other towns of Judah and Benjamin were chosen by sacred lots to live there, too, while the rest stayed where they were.
1 Corinthians 10:14-33  Apostle Paul warns believers to flee idolatry — that which we desire other than the Lord (power, money, status, pride, etc.).  You cannot please God and the devil.  Do not eat food offered to idols.
Psalm 34:11-22  Turn away from evil and do good.  The righteous person faces many troubles,  but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.  The Lord will redeem those who serve Him.  No one who takes refuge in Him will be condemned.
Proverbs 21:14-16  A quietly given gift soothes an irritable person;   a heartfelt present cools a hot temper. Justice is a joy to the godly, but terrifies evildoers.  (NLT)   The person who strays from common sense will end up in the company of the dead.  (NLT)
