TODAY’S SCRIPTURES:

Esther 8:1-10:3  The Festival of Purim celebrates Queen Esther’s courage for saving her people.  Haman, the king’s high official, is hung by King Ahasuerus’ (Xerxes) men for plotting to kill the Jews, Queen Esther’s people.  The king gave Haman’s property to Esther.  He also issued a decree, allowing the Jews to unite to defend themselves.  Mordecai, the queen’s uncle, is appointed prime minister of Persia.  He was highly regarded by the Jewish people for serving and representing the people’s best interests.

1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13  If I do not have love, I gain nothing.  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Psalm 37:1-11  Trust in the Lord and do good … and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret —it leads only to evil.  For those who are evil will be destroyed but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.  A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.

Proverbs 21:23-24  Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.  The proud and arrogant—“Mocker”—behaves with insolent fury.

READ THE BIBLE IN 365 DAYS: SHORT AND CONCISE (8/19)

TODAY’S SCRIPTURES:

Esther 4:1-7:10  Queen Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, hears Haman’s plot to destroy all the Jews in Persia.  The queen outwits Haman, the king’s high official, and pleas to husband, King Ahasuerus, to protect the Jewish people from Haman’s wicked plan.  The king has Haman hung on the gallows Haman himself built to destroy the Jews.  Esther’s faith and courage saves her people.

1 Corinthians 12:1-26   It is the same God who does the work in all of us.  A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.  It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.  The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.  If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

Psalm 36:1-12  God is loving, faithful, and just.  God detests evil and will defeat evil in His time.

Proverbs 21:21-22  Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor.
